At a time when the goddess was so honoured, women who walked the earth were seen as Her divine conduits and messengers.
Direct reflections of their strength, beauty and power, women as handmaidens of the goddess were Her priestesses.
Bringers of love, hope, protection, second sight, healing and a higher connection to self, Priestesses supported people in their communities to be in greater connection with their true selves, with each other, and with the goddesses—and sometimes gods—that guided every aspect of their life. In ancient Mesopotamia and Sumer, priestesses administered both religious and medical services.
The priestesses of Çatal Hüyük were conductors of powerful rituals, and those of ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome were revered as some of the most prominent, powerful and important members of their societies.
Celtic priestesses were mediators, ceremonialists and warrior trainers, and Mayan priestesses were renowned ritualists and midwives. The role of the priestess was held in the highest regard and without suspicion or question.
They were seen as vital members of their communities, responsible for the spiritual health and wellbeing of those around them; wayshowers for people to honour the messages and desires of the goddess and gods according to the seasons, moon cycles, fertility and survival.
Far from subservient or dominated, priestesses in many cultures of the past were key political, economic, medical, educational and spiritual leaders. They held entire communities together with their grace, intuitive abilities, healing skills and deep abilities to connect to oneself and each other.
They were the ties that bound in the most profound ways. Until they weren’t.

The Divine Feminine, spirit of the goddesses, power of women as spiritual leaders—as priestesses—has never truly died. Denied and silenced, yes. Dead? Never. She has lived on in billions of us who have resisted, simply by surviving and being here now to witness the time of Her rebirth as our own.
Where we can tap into a loving curiosity of what it means to be a spiritual leader today and be committed to moving through any fear that may come with that.
To know what it means to be whole and sovereign.
To move back into right relationship with the Great Mother, sister/brotherhood and community. And to harness our power and privilege to challenge white supremacy, racism, heteronormativity, ableism, exclusion, and more, to our fullest extent. Women are reclaiming their birthrights as spiritual and sacred leaders.
Refusing to be told is only one way or path to soul belonging and earthly living. Refusing to honour the notion that only men hold the mysteries and spirit of the Universe and are conduits to speak for them.
Refusing to not see and honour their gifts and magic for themselves and others.
Refusing to not believe that they have the power to influence change in the most profound ways at individual, community and collective levels.
Women are falling in love with their spiritual selves, divinity and leadership all over again.
As we as a collective of human souls need them to.
More than ever before. And with this love we become witness to the re-emergence and rising of priestesses as they unfurl, stand tall and emerge as the seers, healers and space holders they truly are.
